Our portrayal will be the 35th Alabama Infantry, Company E, at Mississippi Stands, but we will be forming as the Second Company of the First Battalion/Jeff Davis Guards. The Battalion will be commanded by Colonel Scotty Myers, with Captain Matthew Joe Mallory as Adjutant/Right Wing Commander, and Captain Gary Lee as Left Wing Commander. General Duane Hamby will be overall Confederate commander.

Battle Portrayal

Mississippi Stands covers four distinct events; the Siege of Corinth (April 29 – May 30, 1862), the Battle of Iuka (September 19, 1862), Grierson’s Raid on Ripley (April 18, 1863), and the Battle of Harrisburg (AKA: Battle of Tupelo, July 14 – 15, 1864).

Registration is now $30.00, and can be paid on site.

Event Location

We will be on the Brice’s Crossroads National Battlefield. The address is;

            128 MS-370, Baldwyn, MS 38824

As of now, there is no site map. As such, I am uncertain where camp will be located. We will camp with the battalion, but most likely within our own company street. We will attempt to have the regulation style infantry camp, with the chapel taking place of the officer’s tent. The kitchen will be to the left of the chapel’s entrance, and the company street starting with the tents after it. A-Frame/Wedge tents should be towards the front, and Shelters, Flies, Lean-tos, and other tentage (including no tent) should be towards the end of the street.

Drill Manual

Drills will be conducted in the morning, and if time permits may be spontaneous during the day. The primary company drill will be held around reveille, or 6:00AM. This will be a shortened drill, focusing on company maneuvers, manual of arms, loading, and firing. The second drill will be a battalion drill, and will be held as soon as time permits, preferably on Friday evening. The drill manual used will be William J. Hardee’s Rifle and Infantry Tactics.

Thursday and Friday will feature tactical battles, Saturday will feature two battles, and Sunday will have only one battle. You will need at least 40 cartridges per battle, preferably wrapped in arsenal packs. The event advertises having plenty of ammunition, as attacks can happen at any time.

Private Tim Morris will be the Company Cook for this event. Food will be $10 per person for the weekend. The following is the tentative menu;

Friday Dinner; Sloppy Joes, buns, and chips. Served with water, tea, or hot water (coffee or tea).

Saturday Breakfast; Biscuits and sausage gravy, scrambled eggs, and sausage (either links or patties). Served with water, tea, or hot water (coffee or tea).

Saturday Lunch; Cold cuts, crackers, etc. Served with water, or tea.

Saturday Dinner; Beef stew, bread, crackers, and green beans. Served with water, tea, or hot water (coffee or tea).

Sunday Breakfast; Bacon, eggs, bread, and sweet rolls. Served with water, tea, or hot water (coffee or tea).

Sunday Lunch; Left overs. Served with water or tea.
